Manuscripts as Visual Art: A Zoom Discussion with Tim Youd, Claire Gilman (The Drawing Center), Joel Minor (Special Collections Library, Washington University) and Allison Unruh (curator and writer)

January 27, 2021

In conjunction with Tim Youd's ongoing performance William Gaddis Retyped, the New York Review of Books and Cristin Tierney Gallery are pleased to present a virtual conversation about the visual characteristics of the written word. Artist Tim Youd, curator Claire Gilman (The Drawing Center), curator and writer Allison Unruh, and Special Collections Library specialist Joel Minor (Washington University) will discuss how Youd engages with the imagery and unconventional text found in Gaddis's, William Gass's, and other postmodern authors' novels. The group will also examine the visual aspects of Youd's performance work.

Youd is presently retyping William Gaddis' novel The Recognitions, to celebrate the reissue of the title by NYRB Classics. The performance began in October 2020, and will continue through April 2021.

The talk begins at 6pm EST. To RSVP for the discussion, please contact Candace Moeller at candace@cristintierney.com.
